The Reality of Self Publishing

It's been a little over a month now since I published my first book, and I am looking forward to getting more out there.  I'm not selling thousands a day like J.A. Konrath or Amanda Hocking, but I usually sell 1-2 a day (I'll hopefully celebrate 100 sold later this month!).  And I guess that's better than zero.

So, I read this blog post the other day about how J.A. Konrath sold $100,000 worth in his ebooks in three weeks and it made me take a step back and think....am I really cut out for this?  He had a few follow up blogs regarding this amazing feat and what it's all about, but will I ever be able to say that I'm selling 1,000 books a day?  A girl can dream!

It wasn't a picnic for J.A. Konrath or for any of those successful self -publishers out there at first, and most of us won't ever see that kind of success.  And a post by Allen Schatz passed on to me by a friend, really hits on the reality of self publishing.  We can all have our self-pub heros, but that doesn't guarantee instant success or even luck.

I'm doing what I can to promote and market my book (it's rather exhausting), so I'm willing to see how all of that pans out over the next few months.  Regardless, I still don't regret my decision, and I am gearing up for more publications.  It's been a trip and I'm not quitting anytime soon!

My selkie picture for you...
