My Friday Review: Living in the Dark

Title: Living in the Dark
My Rating: 4 conch
Buy At: Amazon,Barnes and Noble

Summary from Goodreads:
Experiences can make us or break us and it's no different for sixteen-year-old, Emily.

Living under the roof of her abusive Uncle, Emily is brutally attacked by a gang and wakes up from a coma with no recollection of the accident.

As the amnesia starts to clear, Emily realises that her memory is not the only thing coming back to her from the accident. There's also a wild, angry power that she has to control before it destroys her and everyone else.

So the question remains: Will Experience make her or break her?

The Review: I really enjoyed this story. I am a sucker for those kinds of books or movies that have a twisted plot, dark characters, and situations that stick with you for months. Emily and her life included every single one of those aspects. And just as you think you know what's going on in her world, we are introduced to a supernatural phenomenon that I find completely fascinating. Emily may have been tortured and abused, but now it's time for her to get revenge. Yeah! I liked Eric and the childhood sweetheart relationship. This novella has its fair share of evil villains, a protagonist you sympathize with, and an ending that will leave you shocked. I can't wait to read the next installment to the Darkness Through The Light Series!

The Good: A different plot that had me thoroughly engrossed. Think Mean Girls mixed with Carrie and maybe even a little Stephen King vibe thrown in.

The Issue: Too short. I wanted more scenes with Eric and Emily and after the ending...I'm worried I won't get my wish.

The Rating: 4 conch. A dark and twisted debut story with characters that you'll want to continue reading about.
