My Friday Review: The Dream Slayer
Title: The Dream Slayer (The Dream Slayer Series #1)
Author: Jill Cooper
My Rating: 4 conch
By At: Amazon, Barnes & Noble
Summary from Goodreads:When your dreams come true, sometimes you get more than you bargained for...
Natalie Johnson has always dreamed she’s someone else; calm, beautiful, in control. A chosen warrior with a maniacal arch nemesis and a dreamy boyfriend, the type that can make your knees melt and your heart quiver.
Real life is much different. She’s tormented by a bully and endures the sharp tongue of her father, but finds solace in her dreams.
When her bully ends up dead, de ja vu from a dream hits her hard as everything around her begins to fall apart.
Whatever killed Sarah in her dreams is now in reality, hunting her from the shadows. And it wants her dead.
Somehow as the lines between reality and nightmare blur, Natalie must discover hidden strength to pull her friends and family back from the brink of madness.
The Review: This was an interesting book that had reality tightly interwoven with dream worlds. Natalie is strong in one and bullied in another. I felt for her - in both worlds. The bullying was rough and at times, hard to take. But then we'd switch to demon slayer Natalie and see her take charge of her own life. I'm not sure if I fully understood all that goes on in the dream world, but I also see this is part of a series and perhaps we'll learn more later. Tristan is a good match for Natalie - not sure if I liked Damien or connected with him. The demons, vampires, etc. all mixed together was a nice twist. I enjoyed this world and look forward to reading more of it.
The Good: Lots of action, intriguing storyline, and characters that worked.
The Issue: There were times when I was confused at which world we were in. Particularly toward the end of the book.
The Rating: 4 conch. A different concept with interesting characters and lots of action.
