Review: Opal (Lux #3)

Title: Opal (A Lux Novel, Book Three)
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
My Rating: 4 conch
Source: Purchased
By At: Amazon, Barnes and Noble

Summary from Goodreads:
No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger... and they know it

The Review: Okay, where to start. First, Opal definitely had a faster pace than Onyx which was a big plus. Several interesting things happened throughout and I was happy to learn more about hybrids and the government (but still having an issue with the science). Not every character turned out to act in the way I expected them to and for that, I give the author credit. Yet while Katy evolved a bit in this one, I'm afraid Daemon did not. The super over-protectiveness and the inability to work with Katy as an equal tended to irk me, and really is the reason why I didn't rate this one a little bit higher. But I did like the action and expected the cliffhanger ending (as I would have written the same!). Meeting some new characters also sparked my interest in what we might find out in the next book. In all, a sexy romance thrown into life and death situations - just my cup of tea!

The Good: Faster action and a relationship moving forward.

The Issue: Cave-man Daemon.

The Rating: 4 conch. Better than Opal and certainly had me buying the next one right away.
