Amber Garr spends her days as a scientist and nights writing about other worlds. Her childhood imaginary friend was a witch, Halloween is sacred, and she is certain she has a supernatural sense of smell. Amber is a multiple Royal Palm Literary Award winner, author of the bestselling The Syrenka Series, The Leila Marx Novels, the award-winning The Water Crisis Chronicles, and the Death Warden Series. When not obsessing over the unknown, she can be found dancing, reading, or enjoying a good movie.

The Real Story

I love animals, hate coffee, and don’t ever want to be bored. After dancing for most of my life, an injury forced me to slow down a few of years ago. And when I did, I turned to writing as my creative break from the very logical and realistic science world I work in every day. Although I have my doctorate in biology, my fiction writing will continue to play a major role my life since the characters are a part of me. Every single one of them has a story to tell, and they often scream at me in the car, at my office, or in the shower.

In December 2011, I published the first book in my young adult paranormal romance series about mermaids and selkies called Promises.  The second (Betrayal) and third (Arise) book of the trilogy were released in 2012.  I've also written an adult urban fantasy called Touching Evil as part of The Leila Marx Novels that involves a clairsentient (or touch clairvoyant) who is dealing with a personal tragedy and discovering that she is not the only supernaturally gifted one in her world. Using science to create fiction, I recently published Waterfall and Waterproof, a new adult dystopian dealing with our world once the last of the clean drinking water has been used up. A very real scenario if we don't conserve now!  I have several novels in progress including a new paranormal romance trilogy call The Death Warden Series, Touching Death, and the final book to The Water Crisis Chronicles. Oh, and several novellas based on characters from The Leila Marx Novels. The books are piling up in my head, and I'm doing my best to get them on paper as soon as possible!

Other than that, I'm a wife to my best friend and mom to three very furry children (Noodles, Screamie, and Bitsy Cat). I've had the opportunity to travel to quite a few places including Africa, Norway, Germany, Alaska, and throughout the Caribbean. We recently moved to Colorado and I'm loving my view of the mountains from my office. Very inspirational!
